Bioluminescence is the emission of light by living organisms, a

This natural light production results from a chemical reaction involving luciferase and luciferins, the energy molecule ATP, and oxygen. The essential light-emitting components--the luciferins and luciferases- are specific for different organisms, and the color of the light produced might also vary, with blue-green being common in oceanic organisms.
Marine organisms use bioluminescence for various purposes, including attracting prey, deterring predators, and communicating. For example, certain species of jellyfish emit light when threatened, creating dazzling display to confuse predators. Deep-sea fish utilize bioluminescence to lure prey. In the same way moths are attracted to light, many sea
organisms are attracted to bioluminescent glows and thus end up within reach of a hungry predator.
