I believe that reading is crucial for fostering someone's imagination and creativity, however, other hands-on activities are equally powerful in developing these skills.
First, When we read, especially fiction, the author provides the words, we have to build the entire world in our heads—from the characters' faces and voices to the layout of a magical castle. There are no special effects or visuals to rely on. This process of mentally visualizing descriptions and interpreting characters' emotions is a fundamental workout for our imagination. It exposes us to infinite possibilities and worlds we'd never otherwise conceive of.
Some other activities are also conducive for our imagination and creativity. For instance, Building with LEGO blocks, you have to generate an original idea from scratch and then overcome the challenges of bringing it into the physical world.
