From my perspective, I'd say the reading preferences among my family and friends are a healthy mix. Starting with my family, my brother is a massive fan of science fiction, with Frank Herbert's Dune being his all-time favorite. He's drawn to the world-building and philosophical questions it raises. Meanwhile, my best friend Lily is totally different; she almost exclusively reads romance novels. She finds them comforting and a great way to relax after a stressful day. However, there's also a common ground. My father and a few of my college friends share a strong interest in historical non-fiction. They often exchange books about significant events, like the Cold War, discussing how history shapes our present world. So, while their preferences vary, they all find deep engagement and pleasure in their chosen genres.(132词)

Without a doubt, I have a strong preference for reading in a relatively quiet environment such as library. First, silence is essential for deep concentration and comprehension. For example, When I'm trying to absorb complex information from my math textbook, Any background noise—like people talking or music playing—acts as a major distraction. It breaks my focus and forces me to reread sentences, which makes the whole studying inefficient and frustrating. Reading in a quiet place allows me to fully immerse myself in the author's world. For me, a big part of the joy of reading fiction is the ability to visualize the scenes and connect with the characters emotionally. For instance, noises from TV commercial instantly pulls me out of the story and back into reality, ruining the atmosphere and images the author worked so hard to create. Quietness, on the other hand, provides the mental space for my imagination to flourish.(153词)

Old classic novel would certainly be my priority for two compelling reasons. The reason it is called classic novels is they have been published long enough and have profound impact on contemporary society. While a modern story might reflect current trends, a classic like Pride and Prejudice delves into the timeless issues of love, prejudice, and social expectations. Reading it allows me to connect with the fundamental emotions and dilemmas that people have faced for centuries, offering wisdom that goes beyond a single era. It's not just a story; It's a lesson about life itself. Secondly, I believe classics provide a deeper and more enriching intellectual experience. They are often the foundation of our culture and have influenced countless other works. The Brothers Karamazov by Dostoevsky has greatly influenced so many later authors and readers all over the world for centuries, even Lev Tolstoy absorbed some essence on how to describe human nature and ethical dilemma in his work.(160词)

I believe that reading is crucial for fostering someone's imagination and creativity, however, other hands-on activities are equally powerful in developing these skills. First, When we read, especially fiction, the author provides the words, we have to build the entire world in our heads—from the characters' faces and voices to the layout of a magical castle. There are no special effects or visuals to rely on. This process of mentally visualizing descriptions and interpreting characters' emotions is a fundamental workout for our imagination. It exposes us to infinite possibilities and worlds we'd never otherwise conceive of. Some other activities are also conducive for our imagination and creativity. For instance, Building with LEGO blocks, you have to generate an original idea from scratch and then overcome the challenges of bringing it into the physical world. This process—of envisioning something that doesn't exist and then problem-solving to make it real—is the very essence of creativity. It's applied imagination. (156词)
